EAP

Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are employer-based benefits provided to employees at no cost to the employee. Most EAP’s allow employees and their family members to access mental health services for any reason. Usually the number of visits is limited, often between 3 and 8 sessions. It is necessary for the employee to call the EAP administration office to obtain pre-authorization before services can begin.  All EAP’s provide confidentiality so that the employer and the HR Department do not receive any information regarding  an individual patient’s use of EAP services.

EAP services also may include management referrals, which occurs when the employer refers an employee for mental health services. This may occur after a workplace incident, drug or alcohol abuse, or performance problems are identified. Management referrals require the employee to authorize the therapist to communicate with the employer regarding session attendance and progress.
