Adolescents Dr. Abramowitz has extensive experience working with teenage boys and girls facing a variety of problems ranging from emotional adjustment, school, peer, and family relationships to serious difficulties with behavior and judgment. Usually teenagers have problems in more than one area of their lives, and Dr. Abramowitz works closely with parents and their children to identify and treat problems across personal, social, academic domains. Adolescents are often resistant to participating in therapy and open up only when they become comfortable. Dr. Abramowitz has had good success in creating therapeutic relationships where teens feel understood, and are motivated to develop new coping skills to overcome problems. He accepts adolescent patients from age 12 through early adulthood. During the initial assessment Dr. Abramowitz meets separately with parents and the teenage patient in order to gather history and develop a treatment plan that meets the needs of parents and teenager. Following the initial assessment, family sessions may be scheduled as needed. |
